Speaker Bio
Jason Cusson was born in Eastern Canada and has spent the last 30 years working as a critical care nurse all over the world, including the faraway reaches of Australia, Haiti, India, and North Africa. His exposure to tragedy and human suffering, combined with the loss of several colleagues by suicide, due to mental illness, affected his being to its core. It sent him on a quest to Southeast Asia, India and the Amazon, where he found guidance in the teachings of the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh and the indigenous land stewards to achieve a better understanding of the human condition. He would become a mindfulness meditation teacher in nature under the guidance of Mark Coleman and, further learning about mental health, trauma and addictions with Gabor Matte.
Jason currently divides his time between his work at Stanford Life Flight, and his home in Spokane, Washington. He is a long-time educator for ASTNA, STN and Stanford CEPD and teaches mindfulness classes, workshops and retreats in Nelson, British Columbia. He is a passionate teacher with a focus on the healing of healthcare workers and resilience building, through compassionate self-awareness, cognitive restructuring, self-care and the healing power of nature.
